Wasabi Precision Aerobatics Practice

Wasabi Precision Aerobatics Practice from surfimp on Vimeo.

Had a lovely afternoon up in the mountains yesterday with my FL Bird Works Wasabi. Practicing precision aerobatics is a really great change of pace from the Ultrabatic flying at the beach, and something I’ve enjoyed for many years now.

Unfortunately, capturing the “big air” flying on video has always proven something of a challenge. As an experiment inspired by Ian “Daemon” Frechette’s winning “High Energy” video from last year’s video contest, I tried using my GoPro Hero2 set on “Narrow” Field of View.

I’m not totally happy with the results – I still had to do a lot of zooming and panning in iMovie during editing – but it’s nice to finally post another precision video. It’s been nearly six years since my last one!! :)

Wow, this video sets a new standard for drama and excitement! Very beautiful production, excellent editing and scoring. The flying is great, too… a new bar has been set!!

Planet-Soaring is featuring a Wasabi assembly photo album. The plane looks to be really well thought-out and should build very quickly. Cool!

I spoke to Bob Breaux of SoaringUSA and he confirmed my prototype should be here within a week or so. It will be a build frenzy as soon as it arrives! :)

The Wasabi is coming closer and closer to reality…

Francois Lorrain of FL Bird Works recently traveled to the French Alps where he met with Jerome Bobin, Thierry Platon and Pierre Rondel to deliver the first three production prototypes and demonstrate the flying potential of the original proto. Suffice to say, everyone was stoked! Pierre snapped some great photos available here: Wasabi photos

The fourth prototype is coming to your’s truly for testing here in the States. Watch this space for more info! :)

Sneak Peek: The Wasabi from FL Bird Works

I’ve been greenlighted to post the first teaser “sneak peek” of an extremely exciting new slope aerobatics glider known as the Wasabi from FL Bird Works of Belgium. I”m not at liberty to divulge much at this point, but what I can say is that the plane is hollow molded and that some of the very best minds in slope aerobatics have been actively involved in its development. I have been fortunate enough to have been chosen to test pilot one of the pre-production prototypes, the first Wasabi that will be coming to North America. Suffice to say, I AM PUMPED!!
